Dig a hole and bury the Olla, leaving the top of the neck exposed. Place your plants near the Olla.
Ollas can be watered manually or automatically. To water the Olla manually simply remove the lid and fill with a hose or watering can. To water the Olla automatically just install your drip line. It is also beneficial to surface water the soil for the first couple weeks, until the roots have made their way to the Olla. Check the Olla every couple of days to monitor water level, and re-fill as needed.
After a week or two, the roots find their way to the Olla. They surround the Olla and draw out the exact amount of water they need. Dryer top soil also drastically reduces weeds and bugs. ** Leave the Olla in the ground, this photo is just to show the roots.
